Survivors of Abuse Restored (SOAR) Healing Hearts Banquet 2015 – Southern Indiana Event Photography

Last year I covered the SOAR banquet for Southern Indiana Living Magazine where I often contribute event photography, and I enjoyed the event so much that I volunteered to come back this year.  The founder, Leslie Thomas was my next door neighbor in Greenville, Indiana when I was in high school.  I love to see how God is using her in this ministry that she started about 15 years ago.  The Healing Hearts Banquet was held on February 27th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.  There were silent auction items and raffles and a live auction along with a wonderful dinner and awesome cheesecake for dessert (or apple pie ala mode!)

Along with the auction there was a panel of women who shared about how they had found healing through Jesus with the help of the SOAR program, and beautiful music.  My absolute favorite part of the event was the live artists who had stations set up around the room and produced pieces that night for the live auction.  I wanted to highlight one of the paintings that was created during the evening by Megan Boone.  I took the first picture as she was signing the back of a blank canvas and very quickly the canvas was filled with writing.  The words were the lyrics to the Matthew West song, Forgiveness.  Interestingly, Matthew West also has a song about sexual abuse called Broken Girl, but the song Forgiveness to me speaks more to the freedom that we experience when we do what seemingly can’t be done – forgive those who have harmed us.  The lyrics remind us that it always goes to those that don’t deserve it and that the pain is real.  The song goes on to remind us that we are only asked to do what God has already done for us and that in doing so, we are the prisoner that is freed.  Soon the lyrics were covered in paint and a beautiful girl emerged complete with little wings.  I was amazed at how quickly the painting was created.  It was auctioned off only couple of hours after it was started.  Isn’t it beautiful?

So let it go and be amazed, By what you see through eyes of grace, The prisoner that it really frees is you.  Forgiveness.

Baby Sawyer – Louisville, KY newborn photography

The best part of newborn photography is the sweet, sleepy baby.  I love to snuggle with a newborn and soak up the newborn smell.  This chunky little guy was a doll.  He was not sure that he wanted to sleep for his session, but I enjoyed hanging out with him on the couch and even got to feed him a bottle.  When he did fall asleep, he was out!  He was the cutest dinosaur I had ever seen.  His outfit matched his dinosaur themed room.  The adventure of putting on his Easter outfit caused a few cries, but it wasn’t long before that cute mad face turned into a snooze.  Thank you for letting me photograph Sawyer!

Corydon Class of 2015 / Session at Waterfont Park in Louisville / Southern Indiana Senior Portraits

I had such a fun time photographing Courtney this weekend for her senior portraits.  We started out at Waterfront Park in Louisville, Ky and then had a little adventure in downtown Louisville.  This session had it all from the Ohio River and wildflowers to wrought iron and graffiti.  At the end of her session we even found an awesome building with teal boards and played there until she was running late for her own birthday party.  After the session, I decided to stay and have some crab myself at Joe’s Crab Shack.  She even showed me how to eat crawfish!  Thanks Courtney – I had a ball!
